Operation Manong will celebrate 25 years of encouraging education among underrepresented groups with a reunion celebration at:

10:30 a.m.2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16
Campus Center Ballroom
UH Manoa

Since 1972, Operation Manong has sent college students to tutor immigrant public school students and conducted enrichment classes for intermediate and high school students. The program has also promoted higher education and coordinated college recruiting of high school students.

Operation Manong activities focus on traditional Filipino manong/manang relationships with their ading-older "brothers/sisters" helping "younger siblings." Originally conceived to assist Filipino immigrants, Operation Manong programs have served students of all ethnicities.

Program alumni include a former state insurance commissioners and University regent, media personalities, social workers and others.. Many of them are expected to attend Saturday's reunion.
