UH students head back to classes August 24
Students head back to school at all UH campuses Monday, August 24. A headcount is taken on the first day of classes, but "opening enrollment" figures are not released until a few days after the deadline for late registration (the deadline this semester is September 4). "Official enrollment" figures are calculated at the end of the fifth week of the semester (September 25). (In the fall of 1997, 45,251 students were officially enrolled throughout the system). Full-time undergraduate tuition is higher by $24 to $48, depending on the campus, in accordance with the tuition schedule for this year and next approved by the Board of Regents in February 1998. For undergraduates who are Hawai'i residents, the total cost of attending UH Manoa (resident tuition plus housing) is lower than the total cost (nonresident tuition plus housing) of attending any of the other 99 "top-value" schools ranked in the September issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine. The magazine calls public universities like UH Manoa a "great value." Here are some events scheduled for the first few days of the fall semester which may be of interest to your audience: Saturday, August 22, Johnson Hall (Freshman dormitory, 2555 Dole Street, UHM), about 1 o'clock.
