* * * September is Women's Health Month * * *

University Health Services sponsors a lecture by Dr. Wasnich on osteoporosis September 3, and a day of bone density screening September 24 at the Health Services, by the Hawaii Osteoporosis Foundation. For more information: Ann Sakaguchi, 956-8965. University Health Services will also expand the hours of the Women's Health Clinic. This joint effort with the School of Nursing will provide faculty clinicians for a Wednesday evening clinic for family planning and other women's health services.

UHM Women's Center offers a Women's Health Month Lecture Series. All events are free and open to the public. For more information: 956-8059.

· "Watch Your Back," Tuesday, September 1, noon-1:30, Student Services Center 412, brown-bag lunch workshop on osteoporosis and bone health with Rachael Wong from the Back Pain and Osteoporosis Center.

· "Women's Rights Are Human Rights," Wednesday, September 9, noon-1:30, Student Services Center 412, brown-bag lecture and discussion on women's rights in the healthcare system with Jackie Young, former vice speaker of the Hawai'i House of Representatives.

Tuesday, September 8, Free public lecture by Robert Jahnke, Fulbright Visiting Artist in Residence, UH Department of Art, for 1998-99. Jahnke is senior lecturer and coordinator of Maori Visual Arts at Massey Univerity in Palmerston North, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Massey is currently the only unversity degree-granting program that focuses on the language, art and culture of the Maori as its conceptual basis. Tuesday, September 22, 8 pm, UH Manoa Art Auditorium. Free public lecture by artist Mark Perlman, visiting artist in residence September 22-25. Early in his career, Perlman supported himself by photographing old buildings for historical societies. Fascinated with the histories of places, and the physical and implied traces that they leave behind, he transposed this experience into his painting, which incorporates found materials, built up surfaces, and imagery that vacillates between the legible and illegible. Perlman often works on a large scale, and tends to paint with a subdued range of colors, but with pigments that create luminous effects. Contact: Gaye Chan, 956-5249,gchan@hawaii.edu.
