19 cadets from Hawaii complete 1999 Army ROTC advanced camp

19 cadets from the UH Army ROTC program recently graduated from the 1999 Advanced Camp in Fort Lewis, Washington. This camp is the single most important training event in preparation for future commissioning as an Army officer.

The camp placed each cadet in a variety of leadership positions, many of which simulated stressful combat situations. The camp is based on 23 leadership dimensions developed by the U.S. Army Cadet Command and is designed to develop leadership, teamwork, and military skills and knowledge.

This dynamic training included individual water safety, basic rifle marksmanship, machine gun, land navigation, fire support, hand grenade, tactical and physical training.

UH cadets Dominic Amantiad, Roy Horikawa, Kathy McDonald, Melvin Medrano, Jonathan Narvaes, Michell Pascua, Chris Robertson, Sonny Rosales, Rolly Subia, Iven Sugai, Faamao Tanielu, Soon Togiola, and Anthony Tolentino, UHWO cadet Sarah Oden-Freeman, HPU cadets Rachael Hoagland, Jennifer Voge and Paul Wuensch and Chaminade cadets Loreto Borce and Marcus Murphy completed the 31-day camp.

Army ROTC is the largest officer-producing organization within the American military, with approximately 75 percent of all officers in the U.S. Army receiving their commission through the program.
