UH College of Ed gets $50,000 grant from Hearst Foundation The University of Hawai'i College of Education has received a $50,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to establish the William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship Endowment Fund in the college. Interest income from the endowment will fund scholarships for under-represented minority students preparing to become teachers, with preference given to students of Filipino or Hawaiian ancestry. The foundation's primary focus is the support of undergraduate education through the establishment of endowed scholarships at private liberal arts colleges and universities. Endowed scholarships are also provided for professional study in teaching, medicine, nursing, engineering, math, science and health care. The William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship Endowment Fund is the 17th scholarship endowment established in the UH College of Education. The college awarded 48 scholarships for the upcoming semester at its Recognition Dinner, held May 7 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. |
