UH Manoa professor first recipient of new visiting chair in Geology and Geophysics. UH Manoa professor of oceanography, Fred T. Mackenzie, recently accepted an invitation from Texas A&M University (TAMU) to become the first recipient of the Michel T. Halbouty Visiting Chair in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. Through Halbouty's contributions and matching funds from TAMU, the $1,000,000 visiting chair has been established to promote excellence in teaching and research. Mackenzie will travel to TAMU in September to deliver a university and community-wide lecture on "The history and future of atmospheric CO2" as part of a Michel T. Halbouty Visiting Chair Distinguished Lecture Series. While there, he will also conduct individual consultations with undergraduate and graduate students concerning career goals, research, and teaching. Mackenzie has received numerous teaching and research awards during his 40 year career. He is the author or co-author of more than 175 scholarly publications including his latest book, "Our Changing Planet". |
