Noted mediator to speak at UH conference, Aug. 28 Lawrence Susskind, Ford Professor of Urban Planning at MIT, co-founder of the Harvard Program on Negotiation, president of the Consensus Institute, and author of numerous books including Dealing with an Angry Public: The Mutual Gains Approach, will speak at a conference on "Empowering Community: When Values Collide." The conference, sponsored by the University of Hawai'i Department of Urban and Regional Planning, will be Saturday, August 28, from 8:30 to 1, in the Architecture Auditorium on the UH Manoa campus. The conference will also feature a panel of local speakers, including State Representative Ed Case; State Senator Colleen Hanabusa; Bill Paty, trustee, Mark A. Robinson Trust; Paul Achitoff of the Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund; Lynette Cruz of Ahupua'a Alliance; Eric Masutomi of Outrigger Hotels; Neil Yokota of Stryker Weiner public relations firm; mediator Peter Adler and others.
