WebNet 99 offers special opportunities for Hawai'i

businesses, teachers and students

More than 400 companies, universities and organizations from every corner of the globe will send representatives to Honolulu for WebNet 99, October 25-30 at the Sheraton Waikiki. The University of Hawai'i, with assistance from the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, serves as this year's host for the multi-disciplinary forum of the Association the Advancement of Computing in Education, co-sponsored by WebNet Journal, More than 1,000 delegates are expected to take part in the exchange of information on the research, development and applications of all topics related to the World Wide Web. Conference organizers say, "WebNet 99 is a must for all who plan to use the Internet to access information, communicate or conduct transactions, or develop applications for the Internet, including the WWW, Intranets, and Extranets." [program details follow this page]

Hawai'i students have a special opportunity to attend the conference for free in exchange for eight hours of volunteer work at the site. (Regular student registration fees range from $175 to $205, depending on AACE membership status and when registration is filed.) Details on student volunteer opportunities are on the World Wide Web at http://www.aace.org/conf/webnet/volunteers.htm

Early registration deadline is Sept. 16. Registration materials-including an application form and information about prices and discounts for AACE members, students and elementary and secondary school teachers-are on the World Wide Web at http://www.cite.uh.edu/asp/aace/webnet/regform.htm

Registration fees in all categories increase after Sept. 16.

There is still time for Hawai'i businesses to reserve space to showcase and market their Internet-related products and services, says David Lassner, director of Information Technology Services at the University of Hawai'i. "It's not every day that local companies get this kind of opportunity to introduce themselves to an entire world of potential clients. We are very glad the University of Hawai'i could play such a central role in bringing this conference to our state. We believe it will benefit local companies, as well as teachers and students."
