| Student satisfaction with student services increases from 1990 to 1999 |
Undergraduate satisfaction with student support services at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa has increased since 1990 in all but one area, according to a survey conducted this year by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Although the University Health Services showed no gain or decrease in satisfaction, 87 percent of students surveyed were satisfied with the department despite the introduction of a student health fee in 1996.
The 944 respondents to the 1999 survey were selected through a random sample process stratified proportionately by class level. Surveys were mailed to them and two postcard reminders were later sent. The return rate for the 1999 group was 37 percent.
All programs including Admissions and Records, Student Employment, Counseling and Development and Financial Aid demonstrated significant increases in satisfaction. Career Services and the Learning Assistance Center each demonstrated a 22 percent gain in satisfaction from 1990 to 1999, the largest increases among all programs in the study.
Two programs, Co-Curricular Activities, Programs and Services (CAPS) and Service Learning, were assessed for the first time in 1999. Both received relatively high ratings.
