Ramos, Tanoue elected to head UH Board of RegentsThe University of Hawai'i Board of Regents today elected David B. Ramos board chair for 1997&endash;98. Regents also elected Donna A. Tanoue vice chair and welcomed Donald C. W. Kim as the newest regent on the board. The business manager and former controller for Parker Ranch in Kamuela, Ramos has been a UH regent since 1993, chairing the Committee on Finance and representing regents on the board of directors for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai'i. Ramos is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and Seattle University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has chaired the Hawai'i County Board of Ethics, served as president for the Rotary Club of North Hawai'i and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. "I look forward to working with my talented and dedicated colleagues on the Board of Regents during the coming year as we continue to tackle the difficult and exciting challenges facing the University of Hawai'i," commented Ramos. Vice Chair Tanoue is a partner in Goodsill Anderson Quinn Stifel. A graduate of Kalani High School and the University of Hawai'i, she earned her law degree from Georgetown University and is a member of the Hawai'i and American Bar Associations. She has served in board positions for Aloha United Way, Palama Settlement, Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i and Research Corporation of the University of Hawai'i and on the community advisory group for Oceanic Cable and Oceanic Communications. Kim, a UH alumnus, began a six-year term on the board with today's meeting. He is chairman of the board of R. M. Towill Corporation; Kilohana Corporation; AMKOR A&E, Inc., of Seoul, and Keahole Associates, Inc., and a member of numerous professional engineering organizations. He previously served the University as president of the UH Alumni Association, trustee of the UH Foundation, adviser to the UH Manoa College of Engineering and director of the Friends of the Center for Korean Studies. He also serves on the Mid-Pacific Institute Board of Managers, East-West Center Foundation and Korea's Inha Institute of Technology and has chaired the Korean Community Council of Hawai'i and Korean Dongji Hoi Society. The board will gain a twelfth member when Governor Cayetano appoints a student to fill the position created by legislation that was signed by the governor earlier this summer.
