Kali Scholarship Awarded to Kekaha's Candace ImamuraThe Alexander "Poki" Kali Memorial Scholarship in Education for fall semester 1997 has been awarded to Candace Imamura, a student from Kekaha, Kaua'i, who is majoring in Hawaiian Studies and Special Education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. One of 44 scholarships awarded by the College of Education at its annual Recognition Dinner, held May 2 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel inn Waikiki, the Kali Scholarship is a memorial to the late Alexander Kali, who was born in Hanapepe. Endowed by his family, friends and colleagues at the UH College of Education, the scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity in memory of Kali's commitment to lifelong learning and the pursuit of excellence, with preference given to students from Kaua'i who are preparing to be teachers. Four other students from Kaua'i received scholarships in the College of Education for fall semester 1997. They are Vonda Adachi (Lihu'e), Shannon Burkman (Kalaheo), Wendy Takahashi (Kapa'a) and Kathy Yamase (Lihu'e). |
