Elder Law Program's Lenora Lee honored for assistance to persons with disabilitiesFor the second year in a row, a project headed by Lenora H. Lee, paralegal with the University of Hawai'i Elder Law Program and member of the Hawai'i Legal Auxiliary, has won the Advocacy for the Disabled Award, a $1,000 cash grant from the National Organization on Disability funded by the J.C. Penney Company. Lee's honored project this year is the "Malama Care Packet," a guide to hiring caregivers for persons with disabilities. The packet gives information about legal tax and insurance requirements, hints on hiring caregivers, and community resource phone numbers that caregivers and persons with disabilities can use. The Advocacy for the Disabled Award recognizes significant efforts to improve and promote the full participation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life. The awards program is sponsored by the American Legal Auxiliary. Last year Lenora Lee received the award for spearheading a multimedia advance directives program to help blind and deaf people make living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care. Photo opportunity: The 1997 award will be presented to Lee at the American Legal Auxiliary Annual Meeting, August 2. |
