UHM Architecture students win 1999 Walt Disney Imagineering University Design Competition UHM Architecture undergraduates won the 1999 Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) University Design Competition held in Glendale California in June. Lindsay Nishii, Darren Lee, Neal Kido and Zhuang Johnny Wu received a total scholarship of $8,000 for their project, Reversion. Two UHM teams were invited to California to present their ideas to a panel of WDI judges and compete for scholarship awards early in June. They were all interviewed for potential placements in a cooperative education position or internship. Two Theatre graduate students, Brian Bozanich and Chet Toni, placed third and received $2,000 for their project, Perceptions. WDI is the creative force of the Walt Disney Company, responsible for the creation of all Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, real estate developments and location-based entertainment. The winning project, Reversion is a story of a little bat named Benny, whose quest is to save the world. The evil villian, Ferno, has turned the world up-side-down. At sunrise gravity will cease and all creatures will fall into space. Benny must rescue three magic keykins from Ferno and his henchmen. The keykins are guarded in the trees, the clouds, and the volcano. After banishing Ferno, Benny must return the keykins to their proper place to turn the world right again. |
