|Board of Regents Personnel Actions, Grants Summary|
The Board of Regents approved the following personnel appointments at its meeting last week:
Dean Harrigan Appointed Matsuda Chair in Women's Health
UH Manoa School of Nursing Dean Rosanne Harrigan has been appointed as the Frances A. Matsuda Chair in Women's Health. The Chair was established in 1995 when an endowment fund was created in the name of Dr. Frances A. Matsuda Sano. It is to develop leaders in nursing education to improve women's health, generate additional funding for research in that area and to support presentations and conference addressing women's health issues.
Keith Miser Appointed Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UH Hilo
Keith M. Miser will become UH Hilo Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs effective August 1, 2000, following approval of his appointment by the Board of Regents last week. Dr. Miser is currently Vice President for Student Affairs at Colorado State University. He previously served as dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Administration at the University of Vermont. The Hilo position has not been filled permanently since 1995.
Grant Funding Heading Toward New Record
The Board of Regents accepted research and training grants totaling $14.2 million for the one-month period ending May 15, 2000. When calculating such external funding received by the university for the year to date, the total of $154.1 million is nearly ten percent ahead of the same period last year. Senior Vice President for Research Alan Teramura expressed confidence that the university will exceed last year's 12-month total of $164 million, marking the fourth year in a row for increased funding in these categories.
