UH Students Under CIA Scrutiny? It's Not What You Might Think The Central Intelligence Agency is investigating 19 University of Hawai'i at Manoa students, but the scrutiny is both expected and welcome. The students are seeking intern positions with the agency for next summer. The students have received conditional offers of summer employment (pending security clearance) under a CIA program to introduce students to potential careers with the agency. The 19 UH students, who are majoring in electrical engineering or information and computer science, are being considered for technical internships. They include students who were class valedictorians and salutarians in high school. The names of the students are not being released, however, since the internships could lead to future careers as intelligence officers. The prospective interns have already met with two UH students who were accounting interns with the agency last summer. The pair shared apartments with other interns from around the country and were able to attend training sessions and neet CIA staff whenever schedules permitted. |
