UH graduate student selected for doctoral program in
aging Michael Cheang, a University of Hawai'i graduate student from the School of Public Health, was selected into the Minority Doctoral Student Leadership Development Program in Aging sponsored by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and the National Institute on Aging. Under this program, Cheang will attend the annual meeting of GSA in Philadelphia, in November, along with several days of workshops on research with the minority aged. He will also be making a presentation on his dissertation research about older adults frequenting a fast-food restaurant. Supplemental travel funds were also provided by the Japanese Women's Society of Honolulu. Cheang, who is graduating with his doctorate in public health in December 1998, already holds a master of public health and an advanced certificate on aging from the UH School of Public Health. He's currently an instructor at the Department of Family Resources in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and at Honolulu Community College. |
