UH dean named to child welfare advisory post Patricia L. Ewalt, dean of the University of Hawai'i School of Social Work, has been named to the newly formed National Community Building Advisory Committee of the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA). The first meeting of the group, which will recommend community building strategies for use by public and non-profit child welfare agencies throughout the United States, will be in Washington, D.C., in November. It will be followed by meetings in various locales throughout the U.S. to incorporate regional knowledge. CWLA is the largest and oldest child welfare membership organization in North America, which provides leadership in child welfare public policy and practice, including standard setting, provision of consultation and technical assistance and advocacy on national children's issues. The National Association of Social Workers Press published Ewalt's book, Community Building: Renewal, Well-Being and Shared Responsibility in 1998. The book on community practice was co-edited with Edith M. Freeman of the University of Kansas and Dennis L. Poole of the University of Central Florida. |
