| "High Tech Hawai'i" looks at Y2K readiness |
Just 37 more shopping days till Dec. 31, and ready or not, here it comes. Hawai'i's public service providers have been working for several years to prepare, and the media has assisted in educating the public. As both the work and frenzy wind down, what do the experts think Jan. 1, 2000 will bring for Hawai'i? What are they doing professionally and personally to prepare?
The Nov. 24 edition of "High Tech Hawai'i," which airs from 8 to 9 p.m., will bring together a number of representatives from public and private sector service providers to discuss Hawai'i's Y2K readiness. As always, the program will feature live call-ins and e-mail from viewers, so viewers will have the opportunity to have their questions about Y2K answered.
"High Tech Hawai'i" is a monthly call-in show produced by the University of Hawai'i to shed light on high technology activities within the state. It airs on the fourth Wednesday of each month during the academic year. The show can be seen live on PEG Access cable channels throughout the state as well as on GTE Americast. On Oahu Cable, it is on Channel 55, on GTE Channel 21, on Kauai Channel 10 and on Hawai'i Channel 4 (Hilo area) or 13 (Kona). "High Tech Hawai'i" is also Web-cast live on the Internet using RealVideo by RealNetworks and Quicktime by Apple Computer. Free player applications are available for both technologies.
The show will be hosted by David Lassner, UH director of Information Technology Services. Guests will include Michael Curtis, Bank of Hawai'i vice president and manager of the Y2K Program Management Office; Michael Hodges, data base administrator at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply; Jerry Matsuda, airport administrator; and Fred Kobashikawa of Corporate Communications at the Hawaiian Electric Company.
During the live airing of the program, questions may be called in to 956-5670 or 1-800-342-7949 (neighbor islands) or sent by e-mail to hth@hawaii.edu.
