UH initiates search for chancellor of UH-West O'ahu

University of Hawai'i President Kenneth P. Mortimer has appointed a committee to search for a chancellor for UH West O'ahu.

As the chief academic officer for the campus, the chancellor reports directly to the president and provides executive leadership to deans, directors, faculty and staff on a variety of academic and non-academic programs. The chancellor is also responsible for planning and administering the day-to-day operations of the campus and works closely with community leaders, legislative bodies, and other external constituent groups.

This recruitment follows action taken by the Board of Regents earlier this year to separate the administration of the West O'ahu campus from that of UH Hilo. The West O'ahu and Hilo campuses were formerly administered by the same chancellor.

Daniel Boylan, professor of history at West O'ahu, will chair the search committee, which is composed of faculty, staff, students, community leaders, and administrators. Members of the committee were selected based on recommendations to the president provided by the faculty senate and student organizations.

The committee will solicit applications and nominations this semester and is expected to present a list of candidates to the president in late fall or early spring. The review of applications will begin on December 5 and continue until the position is filled. Final selection is expected before the end of the academic year.

Members of the University community and the community-at-large are encouraged to submit nominations and recommendations to: Professor Daniel Boylan, Search Committee for the UH West O'ahu Chancellor, c/o Executive Assistant to the President, Bachman Hall 202, University of Hawai'i, Honolulu, Hawai'i 96822.
