Former East-West Center fellow Dr. Saleem Ahmed continues his "What is Islam?" lecture series with the video screening of "I Am a Sufi, I Am a Muslim." Dr. Howard S. Barrows, a medical educator and professor emeritus at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, will lead the lecture series "Education: What Do We Know and Why Can't We Change?" The series, a part of the Thomas J. Whelan Jr., M.D. Memorial Lectureship, explores the question: What are the most productive, efficient and humane ways to learn?" 4:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Oxford-based philosopher Sir Peter Strawson will give two lectures on the UH Manoa campus this week. The Koa Gallery at Kapi'olani Community College presents "Paintings and Poems," an exhibition of new work by artist Paul Levitt with written responses by his wife, Robin Lung. The East-West Center Gallery and the UH Manoa Art Gallery feature concurrent exhibitions of work by 60 contemporary Native Hawaiian artists from Hawai'i and throughout the world. "Mai Na Kupuna Mai, Ho'i I Ka Pu 'olo," or "That which comes from the ancestors is returned as gifts," is running now-Dec. 22 at the East-West Center Gallery at John A.
