Pianist Katya Skanavi, a finalist in the 1997 Van Cliburn Competition, will make her Hawai'i debut with a recital of works by Liszt, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. 4 p.m. Oct. 22. UH Manoa Outreach College continues its International Cinema Series with the Japanese film "Dr. Akagi," which was directed by Shohei Imamura. Set on a small Japanese island in the final days of World War II, the film is the story of one man's obsession to retain his decency and stamp out a deadly disease. 1:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and 26. The East-West Center Gallery and the UH Manoa Art Gallery feature concurrent exhibitions of work by 60 contemporary Native Hawaiian artists from Hawai'i and throughout the world. "Mai Na Kupuna Mai, Ho'i I Ka Pu 'olo," or "That which comes from the ancestors is returned as gifts," is running now-Dec. 22 at the East-West Center Gallery at John A.
