UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII INSTITUTE FOR ASTRONOMY TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE

The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy (IfA) will hold an Open House at its Manoa headquarters on Saturday, October 28, 2000, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The IfA is located at 2680 Woodlawn Drive, next to the Manoa Public Library and across the street from Noelani School. Admission is free, and free parking will be available.

Visitors will be able to view sunspots, make a miniature comet, and see a computer planetarium show, and a variety of research exhibits. Tours of the Machine Shop and the Instrumentation Laboratories will be available.

IfA scientists will give short public lectures on many subjects, including solar changes and Earth's climate, "Lilliput" stars, the telescopes on Mauna Kea, comets, colliding galaxies, X-ray astronomy, dark matter, jumbo stars, and the outer solar system.
