Report of Announcements Made At The October 19th University of Hawaii Board Of Regents(BOR) Meeting
HONOLULU The University of Hawaii Board of Regents (BOR) held
their monthly meeting today at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The
following recommendations were approved:
Naming of University of Hawaii at Manoa Facilities
The BOR approved the renaming of the following buildings on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus:
The Center for Hawaiian Studies will now be called Kamakakuokalani The Gladys K. Ainoa Brandt Center for Hawaiian Studies.
The UH Baseball Stadium will now be called "Les Murakami Stadium."
The Social Sciences Building will now be called "Saunders Hall" in honor of Allan and Marion Saunders.
The Student Services Building will now be called the "Queen Liliuokalani Center for Student Services."
Naming of Three Buildings at Windward Community College
The BOR approved the naming of the following buildings at Windward Community College:
Campus Center Building D has been named as Hale Akoakoa, which means "Hall of gathering together."
The Multi-Media Hall and Imaginarium has been named Hale Hokulani, which means "Hall of starry heavens."
The Humanities Building has been named Hale Palanakila, which means "Hall of (human) triumph, achievement."
Authorization for Special Tuition Waivers
The BOR approved a request for temporary special tuition waivers to be authorized to assist current students and/or sons/daughters of parents who are laid off from employment as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Government, education, business, trades and industry, and community leaders are committed to seeking creative and innovative means to stimulate and stabilize the States economy since the attacks. The proposed temporary special tuition waivers are the University of Hawaiis contribution to this effort.
The BOR also approved the following recommendations:
Consultant contract with PricewaterhouseCoopers
Establishment of a Ph.D. Degree Program in Urban and Regional Planning, Manoa Campus
Establishment of an Associate in Applied Science in Hawaiian Life Styles at Hawaii Community College
Reorganization of Kapiolani Community College and Honolulu Community College
Delegation of Authority to Establish Student Housing Assignment Priorities
Delegation of Additional Authority Relating to Personnel Actions
Executive Compensation Plan and Policy
Awarding of an Honorary Degree to Professor Edward G. Seidensticker
Awarding of an Honorary Degree to Mr. Marcel Marceau
FY2002-2003 Special Session Capital Improvements Program (CIP) Budget Request
FY2002-03 "Zero-Growth" Supplemental Budget Request
