| New Indonesian leaders have UH degrees |
Two members of Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid's cabinet have strong ties to Hawai'i, according to UH Professor of Political Science Manfred Henningsen.
They are:
- Newly appointed Minister for Research and Technology Muhammed Hakim, who received his Ph.D. in Political Science from UH Manoa in 1995 while here as an East-West Center grantee, and
- Incoming Minister for Regional Autonomy Muhammed Ryaas Rasyid, also a grantee, who received the same degree here a year earlier.
Both ministers are scheduled to be sworn in with the rest of the cabinet on Monday, November 1, 1999. President Wahid was elected Indonesia's fourth President last week in a vote of the People's Consultative Assembly.
