Leading Chinese Geologist
Significance of Chinese Loess to Global Climate to be Discussed

Tungsheng Liu, of the Institute of Geology in Beijing's Chinese Academy of Sciences will discuss "The Loess of China and its Significance to Global Climate Variations" during a free public seminar at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 in Marine Sciences Building 114 at UH Manoa.

Loess, a fine grained, yellowish-brown fertile loam, is distributed by the wind and found in Asia, North America and Europe.

Liu, considered to be China's leading geologists, has been visiting geological sites in the islands while on a family visit to Hawai'i.
