| Preliminary Opening UH Fall Semester Enrollment Figures Released |
Enrollment figures for the three baccalaureate campuses in the UH system show that enrollment has stabilized this year. For those three campuses UH Manoa, UH West Oahu and UH Hilo 20,691 students were enrolled as of the close of late registration.
A slight drop (75 students) is reported at Manoa, while UH Hilo showed an increase of nearly 100 new students, representing a 3.5 percent rise in the student population.
Student enrollment at all community colleges dropped by an aggregate percentage of 5.5 percent. Data show that Hawai`i's economy is on an upswing. Typically, students who might otherwise enroll in community colleges are more likely to go to work in such an environment. When jobs are scarce, more people enroll to upgrade job skills.
Early registration at community colleges during the spring was at levels comparable to previous years, but fewer students signed up during late registration periods immediately before classes began.
Total enrollment in all campuses stands at 44,587. It is expected that another 23,000 students will be enrolling in non-credit programs through the university so that enrollments will total approximately 67,600.
Analysis and further refinement of the figures will be conducted after the fifth week of the semester.
