Stan Henning to lecture in Center for Chinese Studies Fall Seminar Series
Stanley E. Henning, assistant professor at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies here in Honolulu, will offer a free lecture, "Chinese Martial Arts History: A Case of Monumental Misunderstanding," September 30 at noon in the Tokioka Room, Moore Hall 319, at UH Manoa.
Stanley Henning has studied the history of martial arts for many years, both in the U.S. and in China. From 1965 to 1993, he served as a U.S. Army officer in a variety of assignments in the Asia-Pacific region, including tours of duty in Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. From 1995 to 1996, he taught English language and literature at Yunnan Normal University School of Foreign Languages, Kunming, People's Republic of China. He received a B.A. in History (English minor) from The Virginia Military Institute in 1962, and an M.A. in Overseas Operations (Asian Affairs, emphasis on China), through an East-West Center grant, from the University of Hawaii in 1965. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. |
