| Buddhist Scholar Presents Latest Research |
Roger Corless, a visiting scholar from Duke University, will address a seminar Thursday, Sept. 16, noon-1:30 in the Tokioka Room (Moore Hall 319) at UH Manoa. The title of Corless's talk is "The Theoretical Foundations of Pureland Buddhist Practice According to Tanluan."
Roger Corless is an accomplished scholar of Buddhism, Christianity, and inter-religious issues. His current research focuses on Tanluan's contributions to Pureland Buddhism. Tanluan was one of the earliest thinkers to write about Pureland Buddhist theory and Practice in the Chinese tradition. Corless's recent research explores Tanluan's thinking through a study of Tanluan's treatment of three texts.
This talk is the second in the fall 1999 Research Seminars on China, a series that began on Wednesday, Sept. 1, and will continue throughout the semester. The research seminars are free and open to anyone who is interested. A different professor will present his or her most recent research almost every week this semester.
