UH Rain*Bow*Tique 1st Anniversary at Victoria Ward Centre-Catch It! Homecoming '99

The University of Hawai'i is celebrating Homecoming '99 and the first anniversary of Rain*Bow*Tique, its off-campus logo store, at Ward Centre, Friday, October 1st from 5 to 9 p.m.-the night before UH takes on UTEP. Island headliners IMUA, Kapena and Pure Heart will perform throughout the celebration.

The street celebration is scheduled to be held on Kamakee Street between Ala Moana Boulevard and Auahi Street. KSSK's own Michael W. Perry and Larry Price are the event's honorary co­chairs. Victoria Ward merchants Ryan's Bar and Grill, Compadres Mexican Bar and Grill, Brew Moon and Stanley's Chicken Market will sell food and drink in support of homecoming and the 1st anniversary of fellow tenant Rain*Bow*Tique.

"Rain*Bow*Tique at Ward Centre presents a unique opportunity to promote UH at an off-campus location," said Director of Auxiliary Enterprises Wayne Fujishige, whose department operates all of the Rain*Bow*Tique stores. "We are so grateful to Victoria Ward and to our supporters and donors for helping us throw this fantastic party celebrating our first anniversary."

The UH Alumni Association will coordinate UH displays showcasing various programs. The College of Engineering will show its concrete canoe, the Army ROTC alumni association will make free dog tags and Windward CC's Aerospace Science Laboratory will feature interactive displays.

UH Alumni Association President Ed Hirata added: "Our hope is to support Rain*Bow*Tique's efforts by encouraging our alumni from all 10 campuses to join in the celebration."

Ward Centre merchants will have food booths and EXTREME FUN will provide activities for the youngsters.

Toyota/Hawai'i Dealers will give away the use of the new 2000 Echo car for a year and Hawaiian Airlines will give away roundtrip tickets for two to the West Coast at the event.

Football spirit buttons are also being sold for $2 at Rain*Bow*Tique in Ward Centre, the Aloha Stadium kiosks, the Stan Sheriff Center, UH Manoa Bookstore and any UH Alumni

Association chapter. Those wearing buttons are entitled to special discounts through various Ward Centre merchants September 27­October 2. A portion of all proceeds will go to academic scholarships.

Event supporters and donors include: Victoria Ward Centers, Hawaiian Airlines, Toyota Hawai'i dealers, KSSK, First Hawaiian Bank, NEXTEL Communications, UH Athletics Department and UH Alumni Association.

The event is free and open to the public.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Kamakee St. between Ala Moana Blvd. and Auahi St. will be closed until 11:00 p.m..
