UHM Professor Wins National Teaching Award

Dr. Peter Jacso, associate professor of the Library and Information Science Program, is the recipient of the Information Science Teacher of the Year award by the Institute for Scientific Information. This prominent institute publishes the Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

The national award is given to the faculty member who best exemplifies cutting edge teaching and research in the field of information science. Dr. Diane Nahl, an associate professor at the LIS program, says Dr. Jacso "is known for his critical reviews of online information systems and databases, his ability to integrate research and teaching in information science and his apt use of metaphor in his teaching."

The award will be presented at the American Society for Information Science Annual Meeting, which takes place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Washington, D.C.
