High school seniors compete in auto body competition at Honolulu CC
Seventeen of Hawaii's most skilled high school seniors bondoed and buffed their way to the state auto body competition finals at Honolulu Community College recently. Each contestant competed in four categories like welding and plastic repair which includes bumpers, interior panels and dash boards. They also worked on basic metal repair like minor dents, plastic filling and painting. The final part of the competition was a 90 minute comprehensive written test. The winner was Justin Carvalho from Kauai High School. He and his advisor Derek Morita will be going to the national final competition in Kentucky. All expenses paid by the contest sponsors, Hawaii Auto Body Association. Honolulu Community College faculty served as judges as well as organizers for the event. Parts, materials and supplies were donated by major vendors. This has been the University Report. Join me tomorrow morning for the UH Today segment on NBC Hawaii News8, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan. |
