Ninety Nifty Notes numbers 71 and 72 It's Aloha Friday and time to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the University of Hawai'i. As part of the celebration, UH Communications Director Cheryl Ernst compiled a list of 90 nifty notes about UH. So far, you've heard numbers 1 through 70. Here's number 71: The third oldest aquarium in the country, Waikiki Aquarium is the only one with a functional coral farm; it cultivates 71 or more species of coral and shares fragments with Mainland aquaria and research facilities each year. The facility also boasts the first coastal garden landscaped with native plants. And number 72: Since 1972, Windward Community College has had a special tie to its community. Among its innovative facilities are an industry-built three-hole golf course used to teach turf grass management and an aerospace laboratory open to thousands of school children and community members each year. Nifty Notes 73 and beyond on University Reports throughout the year, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan. |
