Leeward CC food service program
One of the fastest growing industries in the nation is food service and here in Hawaii, the tourist industry has directly affected that growth. Hawaii's restaurant industry alone employs more than 50,000 workers in more than 25-hundred eating establishments. And UH's Leeward Community College has played a role in helping that industry thrive providing quality training and education for over 20 years. Interested students are trained for skilled positions in hotels, coffee shops, cafeterias, bakeries airlines and health care facilities. The program also provides in-service training and upgrading for industry personnel who want to improve their skills. Through intensive hands-on skill development, students have the opportunity to practice "real world" situations. And, Leeward CC graduates have been successful in the workforce, holding positions such as executive chef at major hotels, chef of Washington Place, even owners of eateries like Ted's Bakery. This is the University Report, I'm Tracy Orillo-Donovan. |
