Walking tour showcases Manoa campus art collection
The University of Hawaii's "Campus Art," a new self-guided walking tour, highlights the sculpture, murals and other art on view at the Manoa campus. The tour was created by Laura Ruby, a well-known Honolulu artist who teaches in the Art Department. Ruby and her students began researching the location and history of many campus sculptures and murals several years ago. Next, Ruby plans to create a traveling version of the tour. A slide-lecture about the five dozen works included in the brochure is in development. Earlier this year the Women's Campus Club awarded Ruby and the Office of University Relations a grant for color photography, which will allow Ruby to share the UH collection with civic groups and organizations away from the Manoa campus. Campus visitors may pick up a copy of the art brochure at Campus Center Information/Ticket window and other locations at UH Manoa. This is the University Report, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan. |
