Teaching children the importance of money pt. 2

Teaching children the importance of money helps in their development to become responsible adults. Yesterday, I said that children should learn about self-denial, limiting wants and respecting and appreciating their material possessions. UH Family Financial Counselor Ron Wall says:

· Be responsible. Children must learn that they must return things when they borrow something;

· Next, money is a metaphor for life. The best money lessons are really about life and how to value it; finally

· Parents must stand by their values. As a parent, you must take teach your children to be responsible for their actions. Part of this means being relentless in enforcing your own values. Raising money-wise children can be a struggle at times but the long-term payoff will be well worth the short-term battles.

This has been the University Report, join me bright and early tomorrow morning for the UH Today segment on NBC Hawaii News8, I'm Tracy Orillo-Donovan.
