Year 2000 Problem Is Serious but Manageable, Panelists Say pt. 2   The Year 2000 problem is a concern to many in our computer-dependent world. That was the topic at a recent panel discussion that included University of Hawaii's Information Technology Services Director David Lassner. He and other panelists agreed that many systems have the problem, and that without massive corrective action, the social impacts will be huge. But projections as to what will actually happen on January 1, 2000 vary from doom-and-gloom scenrios to just another day. The panelists all agreed that when thinking about whether to fix or replace each affected system, owners should consider whether a new system is needed anyway to improve capabilities, competitiveness or efficiency.
