'English Patient' author Michael Ondaatje to speak at UH Author and poet Michael Ondaatje is the third guest of the UH Distinguished Lecture Series. Ondaatje will offer a free public reading from his poetry and fiction Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the UH Manoa Art Auditorium. The following night, he will give a free talk, "From Fiction to Film: The English Patient," at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. Ondaatje, a native of Sri Lanka, has lived in Canada since 1962. His best-known novel, The English Patient , won both the Governor General's Award for Fiction and the Booker Prize. It is available in 32 countries, in 30 languages. The 1996 film adaptation won nine Academy Awards.
