Coastal Erosion Management Conference For millions of years, ocean waves have crashed against Hawaii shores. Today, almost a quarter of Oahu's beaches, and about one-third of Maui's, have been lost or significantly narrowed by coastal erosion. To address the growing concern over coastal erosion in Hawai'i, and elsewhere in the Pacific, UH's Sea Grant Program and the County of Maui will host the "First Regional Conference on Coastal Erosion Management in Hawaii and Other Pacific Islands" April 1-3 at the Aston Wailea Resort on Maui. Topics will include coastal erosion, beach loss, marine resource degradation, beach nourishment and more. The conference will focus on techniques for managing coastal erosion and beach loss that could be applied in Hawai'i and elsewhere in the Pacific. For more information, contact Rob Mullane on Maui at 984-3254. This is the University Report, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan hoping you'll tune in tomorrow morning for the UH Today segment on NBC Hawaii News8. |
