Distance Education

Say you live on a neighbor island and you want to take classes from the University of Hawaii's Manoa campus. Well, you can.

UH's solution? Distance education. Technology now enables students access to classes who, in the past, couldn't physically make it to classes because of location and/or other life obligations.

The educational possibilities are endless for students

who want to take classes from another UH campus, without physically going there or moving, in the case of the neighbor island student. The educational opportunities have grown tremendously, says Hae Okimoto, manager of distance learning. Seven years ago when the program first started, only two classes were available for 65 students. Today, there are 72 classes available to 2,000 students each semester.

Students can now reach their educational goals, be it an associate, bachelor or graduate degree, regardless of where they live, through technology and distance education.

This is the University Report, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan.
