Healthy and stress-free summer travel abroad
Summer is just around the corner and many of you will be heading off to the mainland or other faraway places. For those lucky enough to travel, here are some travel tips from the University Health Services at Manoa: Travellers often suffer from intestinal diseases when visiting developing countries. Drink only bottled water and avoid raw foods like salads. And eat fruits and vegetables that must be peeled before eaten. Next, malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever are prevalent in tropical areas. Check with your physician about vaccinations and mosquito repellents. It's also a good idea to make sure your diptheria and tetanus immunizations are up to date but check with your physician about other necessary vaccinations. Finally, plan a reasonable itinerary. Travelling takes alot of physical and psychological energy. Wherever your adventures take you, plan and prepare early and have a great time. This is the University Report, I'm Tracy Orillo Donovan. |
