Linus Chao is
a professor of art at Hawai‘i Community College. He has been
recognized with many honors over the years, including being named
a “Living Legend” in 1997 by the County of Hawai‘i
for his “ability to illuminate the reality that lies behind
all art and share these insights with us.”
Chao has given generously of his talents and knowledge in a wide
range of areas. Recognized both locally and internationally, this
consummate artist and teacher leads a variety of classes, including
those on Chinese culture, photography, silk screening, drawing and
painting. Chao also presented numerous workshops around the world.
Word of his nomination drew glowing testimonials attesting to his
teaching effectiveness and the impact he has made. One student writes,
“He is my mentor and role model. He lives life fully and with gusto.
His paints and brushes are his toys. He has such a refreshing outlook
on life and it is contagious.”
Chao is a true treasure of the art realm and is someone who enjoys
working and living on the Big Island.
