Regents
Approve UHWO Chancellor, Business Dean
At
their monthly meeting on Nov. 19, regents approved the UH West O‘ahu
chancellor and UH Manoa College of Business dean candidates. • Gene
Awakuni was appointed chancellor of UH
West O‘ahu. Awakuni, who is vice provost for student
affairs at Stanford University, will assume the position
March 1, 2005. Awakuni is a UH alumnus.
• V. Vance Roley will become
dean of the College of Business on January 1, 2005. He is the acting dean and
the Hughes M. Blake Professor of Finance at the School of Business at the University
of Washington.

and Lockheed Martin Renew Educational Partnership
Manoa’s
College of Engineering at Holmes Hall.
Manoa’s
College of Engineering and Lockheed Martin ORINCON Defense renewed
their collaborative agreement. The college will receive a broad
range of support from Lockheed Martin, including guest lecturers
for classes and seminars and other interactive programs. Approximately
50 percent of the engineers employed by Lockheed Martin ORINCON
are graduates of UH.
“Industry affiliates such as Lockheed Martin are invaluable to our students
and faculty who work closely with industry leaders, learning new technologies,
applications and methods that enhance the curriculum of the College of Engineering,” says Wai-Fah
Chen, dean of engineering. “In turn, we graduate highly
skilled engineers whose contributions to Hawai‘i’s business community
are immediate and significant.”

Accreditation Meeting
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges is returning on Nov. 7–9,
2005 to review planning, assessment of students learning, financial management
and resource allocation and leadership and governance at the Manoa campus. To
