Blushing
Asteroids
Colored
enhanced image of asteroid Ida and it's satellite Dactyl (on
the right). The red areas are likely old while the blue regions
are probably freshly exposed surface.
Robert
Jedicke, an Institute for Asronomy associate
specialist, discusses Blushing Asteroids on Tues., Nov.
23, 12 p.m. in the Campus Center Executive Dining Room. For the
first time, astronomers can show that an asteroid surface changes
color as it ages, turning a slight reddish color. This links
meteorites to asteroids and allows the blush of age in the solar
system to be measured.
