Chinese Collaboration Celebrated

Professors of Physics Frederick Harris and Stephen Olsen met Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during an Oct. 15 celebration marking 25 years of research collaboration. The Manoa scientists were among 10 U.S. representatives attending the Joint Committee for Cooperation on High Energy Physics in Beijing's government headquarters and a gala dinner in the Great Hall of China.

Harris, a UH faculty member since 1970, has conducted research at the Beijing Electron Spectrometer detector since it began operation in 1993. Olsen, who came to UH in 1992, primarily works through similar collaboration with Japan. They and fellow UH physicists are expanding the understanding of how particle physics works.
