Storytelling in 3-D

animationKevin Johnson discusses "Storytelling for 3-D Animation: Inspiration” on Fri., Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m. at Manoa’s Architecture Auditorium. Johnson is a 15-year veteran of the animation industry as a story artist and animator for Sony Pictures and ImageWorks.

His lecture explores what makes a good story and how to tell one. Johnson teaches Story at Sony and prior to his time there he worked at Disney, Warner Brothers and Don Bluth Studios. His credits include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Iron Giant, Stuart Little 2 and Cats Don’t Dance. (808) 735-3879

Ceramics and Paintings at Kapi‘olani

Kapi‘olani CC’s Koa Gallery features Noreen Naughton’s Window Series and Paul Nash’s Bullet Forms through March 11. Naughton works in paint, and Nash in ceramics, and both have contributed to the Community College art community through the years. Life in the Digital Age

Digi-Zens Day highlights digital citizenship in the 21st century on Thurs., Feb. 24, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at Manoa’s Campus Center Mall. This mini fair includes product demonstrations, giveaways, information on computer security and wireless software, an ITS help desk and more. The fair will be followed with a Digital Ethical Downloading workshop on Fri., Feb. 25, 10–11:30 a.m. at Campus Center 220.

Changing Practices in Chinese Law

Alison Connor presents the Brown Bag lecture “Confucian or Confusion?” on Fri., Feb. 25 at 1132 Bishop St. In 1983, only a few years after the beginning of legal and economic reforms, Conner went to Nanjing as one of the first Fulbright professors to teach law in China. She returned to China as a law Fulbright in 2004, this time at Beijing's Tsinghua University. In this talk, she discusses the Chinese legal profession and its training then and now-and the revolutionary changes the profession has undergone since 1979. (808) 537-1868

Leeward Theatre presents Expression/Dance: Passion and Abstraction on Sat., Feb. 26, 8 p.m. Expression/Dance features solos including Dore Hoyer’s masterpiece of 20th century abstract expressionist choreography Affectos Humanos, the lyric dance Die Unbekannte aus der Seine and Dad’s Ties. Two Manoa Music Concerts

Manoa presents two concerts this week. James T. Decker on trombone on Sat., Feb. 26, 7:30 p.m. at Orvis Auditorium. Decker re-interprets two works originally written for cello, Brahms' Sonata No. 2 in F Major and Bach's Suite No. 4 in E-flat, and Besozzi's Concerto, originally written for alto trombone and strings, to showcase the trombone's expressive palette.

In the second concert on Mon., Feb. 28, 7:30 p.m.at McKinley high school the UH Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the UH Concert Band present a variety of selections ranging from classical to pop. (808) 956-8742
