Johnsrud Named Interim
Academic Planning and Policy VP
Linda Johnsrud was appointed interim
vice president for academic planning and policy. She was previously
interim associate vice president for planning and policy and acting
chancellor of West O‘ahu. Johnsrud has been with the university
for 16 years.
Linda Johnsrud is eminently qualified to be the chief academic
officer of the University of Hawai‘i System,” said
UH Interim President David McClain. “Her
leadership over the past 18 months at UH-West O‘ahu has elevated
the performance of that campus and has inspired the faculty and
students there. The breadth and depth of her knowledge of the field
of higher education management make her extraordinarily valuable
to the UH System.”

Kapi‘olani Receives National Honor
Kapi‘olani
has been selected to participate in the 2005 cohort of the National
Coalition on Electronic Portfolio Research, sponsored by the American
Association for Higher Education. The national project will connect
researchers across the country who are engaged in developing electronic
portfolio learning. AAHE selected 11 institutions for this year’s
cohort. Professor Judi Kirkpatrick and
Title III coordinator Kelli
Goya managed the application process.
The other cohort schools are Clemson University, George Mason
University, St. Olaf College, Ohio State University, Thomas College,
University of Georgia, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
University of Nebraska Omaha, University of Texas San Antonio and
Washington State University.
ACM Sending “Super Interns” to Australia
Former

Four students from the Academy for Creative Media have been selected
to intern on the set of the Warner Brothers’ blockbuster
Superman Returns. Ronson Akina, Chrystal
Jameson, Matthew Ortiz and Nelson
Quan will be the ACM exclusive production interns on the
Superman set in Sydney, where ACM Chairman Chris
Lee is on leave as executive producer for the film. The
students will earn UH credit as well as get a unique immersion
in a major film production.
The Roy and Hilda Takeyama Foundation is generously supporting
the internship program with a $10,000 donation that will help the
students defray their summer tuition and living expenses.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for our students to
gain first-hand experience at the highest level of their discipline,” said
Chancellor Peter Englert. “We are
also grateful for the support of our donors and corporate sponsors
that have helped to make this possible.”

Osher Institute Receives $100,000
The Manoa Osher Lifelong Learning Institute received a $100,000
grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation of San Francisco to support
continued growth of educational programming for older residents
of Honolulu. This is the third consecutive $100,000 grant given
to OLLI since February 2003. The award-winning program has more
than 1,000 members and provides an array of courses, life review
workshops, writers’ circles, poetry discussion groups, film
series, performing arts events, museum tours, service projects
and more.
“We deeply appreciate the generous financial assistance
provided by The Bernard Osher Foundation and look forward to expanding
our course and workshop offerings to older persons on O’ahu,” said Rebecca
Goodman, director of OLLI at UH Manoa.
