Athletics' Frazier Honored
Manoa Athletics Director Herman Frazier has
been named one of the 50 most powerful blacks in sports. The honor is
announced in the March issue of Black
Enterprise magazine. The featured "professionals who really
call the shots" include seven other college athletic directors,
New York Knicks executive Isaiah Thomas, Disney Sports Attractions official
Reggie Williams and NBA legend Michael Jordan. Read the news

Dai Ho Chun Chairs Featured
As the second holder of the Manoa College of Education's Dai Ho Chun
Endowed Chair, Ronald Heck will focus on the
transition from high school to postsecondary education. During her two
years as the first chair holder Kathy Au developed
a network of 50 public schools involved in improvements to literacy achievement.

Scientist Cowen on Air at Sea
Manoa oceanographer James Cowen was aboard
the R/V Thomas G. Thompson last week as it raced to the Endeavour
segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge off Vancouver, British Columbia, following
a series of intense underwater earthquakes. As scientist in charge, Cowen
hoped to eavesdrop on any resulting lava flows and collect water column

Appointments
Veteran teacher and The Art of Classroom Management author Barbara
Landau joined Manoa's College of Education as director of the
Institute for Teacher Education.
The Board of Regents has approved the appointed of two interim executives—Lois
Magnussen as Manoa's dean of the School of Nursing and Dental
Hygiene and Stephen Hora as Hilo's vice chancellor
for academic affairs.
UH Foundation introduced two new development officers—Noelehua
Archambault as director of development and Marla
Musick as director of institutional development. Archambault,
who was associate director of international initiatives at Harvard,
holds a certificate in international management from Manoa. Musick,
most recently a manager with the New York Public Library, holds a BA
in graphic design from Manoa.
In other foundation personnel news, Kelvin Shoji returns
to Manoa Athletics as development officer and Cindy
Richardson joins the foundation as development researcher. |
