West O‘ahu Anniversary Festivities

West O‘ahu celebrated the campus' 30th anniversary at West O‘ahu Day on April 19. This festival honored those who have made a difference to the UHWO community.

 

Academic Planning and Policy VP Finalists Selected

Three candidates have been selected for the position of UH System Vice President for Academic Planning and Policy. The will take part in meetings and interviews on O‘ahu and the neighbor islands with key administrators, faculty, student representatives and other university groups during the last week of April and first week of May.

The finalists
• Amanda L. Golbeck, professor of internal medicine and professor of preventive medicine and public health at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita
Linda Johnsrud, interim vice-president for academic planning and policy at the University of Hawai‘i System
• Jay Noren, executive vice-president and provost, and dean of the graduate college at the University of Nebraska

West O‘ahu VC Candidates Selected

Three finalists were selected for the position of UH West O‘ahu Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. 

The finalists
• Richard Lege Harris, professor of global studies and world languages and cultures, California State University, Monterey Bay, California
• Stephen Sylvester, dean of School of Arts and Sciences and professor of history at Peru State College, Nebraska
• Lydia Voigt, The Reverend Joseph H. Fichter, SJ Distinguished Professor in the Social Sciences and department chairperson, Loyola University New Orleans, Louisiana

 

Law Team Ranked Best in U.S.

The School of Law’s Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Team defeated more than 90 national and international teams to clinch the award for writing the second place memorial (brief) at the 2006 Hardy C. Dillard Competition. The team members are Rebecca Gardner, Lindsay McAneeley, Nathan Okubo, Molly Stebbins and Robin Scott.

“Our team has been recognized for writing the best memorial of any U.S. team in this year’s competition and the second best memorial of all the teams from law schools all over the world after Xiamen University in China, which finished first,” says Faculty Coach and Professor Jon Van Dyke. Thomas Gill Honored

Gary, Thomas, Lois and Lauren Gill enjoy the reception.

Thomas P. Gill was honored with the opening of the Thomas P. Gill Papers on April 17. Gill served just one term in the U.S. House of Representative but has had a long career as an elected official, civil servant and private attorney advocating social, political, economic and environmental reform.
