Board Gives Dobelle Favorable Review

head shot of maleThe Board of Regents completed its first annual review of President Evan Dobelle’s leadership and cited the change in attitude throughout the university as a positive first year achievement. "Within a year, campus attitudes have changed remarkably," said Bert Kobayashi, board chairperson. "Progress has been initiated and a new attitude is prominent throughout the university system. President Dobelle’s leadership during his first year in office was substantial."

Responding to the review, Dobelle said, "I am deeply thankful to the board and the university community for having entrusted me with the responsibility of managing the University of Hawai‘i. I wake up each day fully energized and excited about building and strengthening our promise and potential throughout the system. I believe firmly in the good work of the university and am proud for the opportunity to steward it into still better times." For a list of Dobelle’s first-year achievements read the press release.

College Of Education Offers Program Statewide

The UH College of Education is offering teachers the opportunity to enroll in two programs—the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Secondary Education (PBCSE) and the Masters in Special Education (MEd SPED). For the first time both programs will be offered simultaneously statewide, due to distance education programs through the Internet and condensed weekend instruction. The certificate program will be offered in math, science, English and social studies. It is designed to accommodate both new teaching candidates and people who are already employed as teachers but who are unlicensed. Classes are taught online and/or during non-working hours.
