Exhibit Draws States First Senior Senator

Hiram and Ellyn Fong
inspect memorabilia from his UH days and political career with Bronwen
Solyom, librarian and development officer. It took three flatbed
trucks to transfer the thousand boxes of materials that Fong donated to the
UH archives. Others viewing the Hamilton Library exhibit included Fongs
son, Hiram Jr. and his secretary, Hunny Yee, and biographer, Michaelyn Chou.

archivist, Jan Zastrow.

James Mak was
featured in the Star Bulletins First Sunday conversation
Sept. 1. Mak, a professor of economics at Manoa, has taught and wrtten about

McKinney, Rick Ziegler
and Patrick Patterson are among the Hawaii
Book Publishers Associations five
nominatees for excellence in Hawaiian literature.
McKinney, a language arts instructor, wrote The Queen of Tears. Historians
Ziegler and Patterson co-authored Red Sun.
An
untitled work by Michael Marshall,
Hilo associate professor of art, has been included in the State Foundation on
Culture and the Arts inaugural exhibition at the Hawaii State Museum.
The work is part of the Art in Public Places Collection.

Memory: Professor Thomas H. Ige
Retired
economics professor and Manoa administrator Thomas
Ige died Aug. 22 in Honolulu. Born
in Waipahu, he joined the university as an associate professor in 1953. He served
as veterans advisor, acting dean of summer session, director of Asian studies,
chair of economics, acting assistant dean of the College of General Studies
and acting director of the Economic Research Center before retiring in 1980.
Private services were held. Memorial gifts may be made to the Kin Chojin Kai
